DIY: Oil Neutralizing Facial Mask

Having oily skin has it benefits. Those with oily skin tend to age slower and tends to wrinkle less than those with dry or normal skin. The Oils the body produces helps keep skin healthy, but there can be too much of a good thing. Excess oil can lead to blemishes and acne flare-ups. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to cut down on oiliness. Here are a few.

Directions: Warm honey slightly. Mix wheat germ and warm honey together. Gently massage into skin concentrating on the t-zone for 3-4 minutes. Leave mixture on face for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Tips For Taking Care of Oily Skin

  • Wash your face twice a day – once in the morning and once before bed. Over washing can strip your skin of all the natural moisturizers and increase oil production.
  • Don’t scrub your face as this can stimulate oil production. Only exfoliate once a week to help loosen and remove dirt and oil in your pores.
  • Use a toner only on areas that are oily, such as your forehead or around your nose. If you have areas that aren’t oily, toners can create dry patches.
  • Oily skin still needs to be moisturized, but the right moisturizer is key; look for water based or oil-free moisturizers and stay away from creams and heavy moisturizers.
  • Use oil blotting paper to remove build-up. Hint: Toilet seat covers from public restrooms are prefect.

You won’t believe how easy it is to make your own homemade yogurt. You need a live yogurt culture that is found in plain whole-milk yogurt. The yogurt you use as a starter should not contain starch or modified starch -read the label.

Servings: 4 cups

  • 4 cups whole, 2% or non-fat milk, preferably organic
    • Note: A higher fat content milk like whole will give you a thicker, creamier yogurt. Also, avoid milk that has been Ultra High-Temperature pasteurized (UHT).
  • 4 tablespoons plain whole-milk yogurt, preferably organic

Start by sanitizing your equipment. Fill a heatproof bowl you are using with boiling water, soaking the spoons and spatula and whatever else you are using in the hot water for a few minutes.

Add 4 cups of milk to pot over medium heat, bring milk to 180°F, (Do not go over 200°F; it is burning point for milk.) stirring regularly to prevent scorching. Once milk has reached temperature, allow it to cool to 110°F (place pot in an ice bath to speed cooling, if desired).

Pour it into a large bowl, then stir in the yogurt. Cover with a clean kitchen towel. Let it sit at room temperature overnight.

If you like the Greek-style consistency, Place a strainer over a bowl and line it with two layers of cheese cloth. Spoon yogurt into lined strainer and allow to drain for two hours or until desired thickness.

This recipe will produce a thinner yogurt. Add one tablespoon of powered milk per 1 cup of milk to thicken.

Question: What Has Been Your Best Age Decade of Your Life?

Posted on Updated on

Question: Based on your life experience, what has been your best age decade of your life?

Post on Facebook by Miyaji Keito, August 19, 2014.

The 40s has been so far the best decade of my life, and I’m sure it’ll get even better. I’ve learned that happiness is the key, and I don’t always need be right. As long as I know the truth, it doesn’t matter so much what other people think. I’m finally comfortable in my skin. I don’t fall apart when someone criticizes or disagrees with me. I’ve learned about forgiveness and about letting go of past hurts and mistakes. Having a positive attitude is the source of all the other good things that I’ve learned about myself and life. Thanks for being there on the journey!
